Allied Health Placement Support Petition
The Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS) would like to make members aware of a national petition calling on the Australian Government to expand the Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) to include allied health and medical students undertaking mandatory clinical placements.
The Commonwealth Prac Payment currently provides support to eligible students in nursing, midwifery, teaching and social work. The petition highlights that many allied health and medical students also complete significant periods of mandatory unpaid placement as part of their training requirements.
The petition has been led by Allied Health Professions Australia and sponsored by Dr Helen Haines MP and Senator David Pocock. It calls for placement support to be extended across all allied health and medical disciplines.
AIMS is sharing this information for member awareness and acknowledges this is an important discussion for current and future Medical Laboratory Scientists.
We encourage members to sign the petition and to include references to Medical Laboratory Science degrees and diagnostic pathology within the comment section at the end. Please also consider sharing the petition with colleagues and peers to help raise awareness of our profession and the important role of placement support across the healthcare sector.
