Professional/Technical Membership

The professional and technical levels of membership ensure that members are readily identifiable as a medical scientist in the eyes of their employer and fellow scientists.

There are 6 types of Professional Membership:

• FELLOW
• CLINICAL SCIENTIST
• MEMBER
• MEMBER | Discipline Specific
• MEMBER | Research
• GRADUATE

There are 2 types of Technical Membership:

• INTERMEDIATE
• TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE

Membership Reclassification

There are 2 types of Membership Reclassification:

UPGRADE YOUR MEMBERSHIP CATEGORY: AIMS Members who have updated their qualifications and/or experience can request for reclassification of their membership category.

RETAINED MEMBER: AIMS Members who have left the medical laboratory workforce due to ill health, or who are over the age of 60 years and are working not more than 10 hours per week.

Membership Reinstatement

Enquiries are welcomed from lapsed members of AIMS.

As industry standards may have changed since the initial membership assessment, reinstatement to a previous membership classification cannot be guaranteed. 

Each application is assessed individually based on qualifications and experience. 

Student Membership

Student membership is available to individuals enrolled in courses leading directly to professional and technical classifications of membership approved by AIMS.
